Palanga Pier is one of the most famous and recognizable landmarks in Lithuania. The first Palanga Pier was built in 1882 on the initiative of Count Juozapas Tiškevičius. At that time, Palanga belonged to the Tiškevičius family, who contributed greatly to the development of the resort.

Initially, the pier served a practical purpose – it was used as a cargo dock for transporting goods and building materials. Since Palanga had no natural harbor, the pier became an important economic link to the sea.

However, it soon became more than just a functional structure. Locals and visitors began to favor it as a place for walks, relaxation, and sunset watching. From that time on, Palanga Pier began to take on the meaning of a symbol of resort culture.

A Pier That Survived Wars and Storms

Over more than a century, Palanga Pier has been destroyed and rebuilt multiple times.

During World War I, it was heavily damaged.
In 1941, during World War II, it was destroyed once again.
In the postwar period, the pier was rebuilt several times, but the wooden structures often suffered from storms and the power of the sea.

The current, more durable version of the pier was renovated in 1998, when wooden beams were replaced with steel supports and a reinforced concrete base, designed according to modern safety and durability standards. The new pier is approximately 470 meters long, and at its end there is an observation deck, offering a breathtaking view of the Baltic horizon.

Today, Palanga Pier is not only a piece of architecture but also the emotional heart of the resort.
